Legislative Leaders Pick Committee Chairs and Members
In June, Assemblymember Rober Rivas (D - Hollister) assumed the role of Assembly Speaker after securing a notably contentious vote of support from a majority of Democrats in the lower house. This month, Senator Mark McGuire (D - Healdsberg) will replace Toni Atkins as President Pro Tem of the Senate. The Senate transition of power has been more smooth, as McGuire was a member of Atkins’ leadership team, who just announced she’s running for governor in 2026.
The resulting committee shuffle looks like a mixed bag for families and supporters of charter schools.
