Every year, CSDC updates our Charter School Governing Board Sample Policies to reflect changes in the law.
Available exclusively to CSDC Member schools, CSDC’s sample policies repository includes “boiler plate” language for the policies California charter schools are required or otherwise recommended to have adopted.
A best practice is for California charter school governing boards to regularly review their school policies and make changes as needed. To assist with this annual review process, CSDC has a helpful resource, the Charter School Governing Board Sample Policy Checklist, which we're making available to all school leaders regardless of CSDC Membership status through the end of the month:
To access this resource, please sign in (or create an account). This resource will be available to non-members through February 2023 and available to CSDC Member schools for the remainder of the year.
VIEWThis year, we’ve updated more than a dozen sample policies, including:
Policies #1-7: Employee Handbook
Policy #4: Graduation Requirements
Policy #1: Delegation of Power
Policy #2: Annual Organizational Meeting
Policy #3: Procedure for Policy Adoption
Policy #5: Brown Act Compliance
Policy #2: Attendance Policy
Policy #6: Pupil Suspension and Expulsion Policy and Procedures
Policy #8: Administration of Medications, Anti-Seizure Medication, Emergencies and Head Lice
Policy #16A: Homeless Education Policy
Policy #16B: Homeless Education Policy
Policy #20: Suicide Prevention Policy
Policy #21: Foster Youth Policy
If your school hasn’t already, now is the time to review your existing policies and use the CSDC sample policies to update your school’s current policies.
And, don’t forget, CSDC also offers a Mandated Internet Website Postings checklist and a 2022 New Laws To-Do List that you can use to keep your school in compliance.
