Your Salary Schedules are on the Ballot this November

Charter school employers may need to accelerate employee pay raises on January 1, 2025, if voters approve a change to minimum wage laws in California. Proposition 32, or the California Living Wage Act, will be on the ballot this November 2024. If approved, the measure would establish a higher minimum wage, and therefore a higher threshold for exemption (from overtime and other laws) across the state beginning on January 1, 2025.

This proposed change has different implications for large and small organizations (25 or fewer employees) and charter schools with collective bargaining agreements. Schools need to watch the minimum wage for two reasons: first, the obvious reason to ensure paying at least the minimum wage. Second, California has strict requirements to exempt administrative and professional staff from overtime. Read on to learn more about how your organization could be impacted.
