Sample Policies - Board Governance - 3. Procedure for Policy Adoption
It is useful to have a policy that outlines the process a charter school board uses to adopt policies. This policy may be drafted in any fashion that is consistent with the bylaws and articles of incorporation of schools that are organized as nonprofit public benefit corporations. This policy is drafted so that the board has appointed a policy drafting committee. This job, however, may be delegated to anyone within the school’s system.
Note: As of 2019, all California charter schools are required to follow the open meeting laws of the Brown Act. Please remember that the committee, if created by the governing board will likely be subject to follow those rules with respect to its meetings. Check with counsel to determine your school’s responsibilities under the Brown Act.
