Deadlines pertain specifically to the submission of a new or existing (renewal) charter school appeals to the California State Board of Education (SBE) that have been denied by the governing board of a school district and/or a county board of education. Appeals submitted within the 30-day timeline, as required by EC Section 47605(k), will be agendized according to regulations. This provides sufficient time for Charter Schools Division staff to thoroughly review and analyze all appeal documents and allows the petition to be heard first at the Advisory Commission on Charter Schools (ACCS) meeting occurring the month before each SBE meeting. All documentation should be submitted electronically to the Charter Schools Division (CSD) via email at CharterAppeals@cde.ca.gov by 4:00PM. If documents are too large to be sent via email, contact the CSD and alternate upload arrangements will be made.

The California State Board of Education (SBE) is accepting applications for the 2025–26 Student Board Member position. The Student Board Member plays a crucial role in representing the perspectives and interests of students across California in important policy discussions and decisions. This is a one-year term from August 1, 2025, through July 31, 2026.

Applies to: Any student who is a California resident and enrolled in a public high school, will be a senior in good standing in the 2025-26 school year, and will be available to participate in a statewide student leader conference November 10 – November 13, 2024 in Sacramento, is eligible to apply.
Actions to be taken: Share with eligible students! Applicants may submit their application via email at sbe@sbe.ca.gov or online at 2025-26 SBE Student Applications by 5:00PM.
