CSDC Legislative Update: What We’re Watching as the Legislative Session Ends

The two-year legislative session ends next week, and all bills must be approved and sent to the governor by the end of the week. Committee work is finished, and the focus is on finalizing last-minute changes to bills.

Senators and Assemblymembers are also celebrating their colleagues who will not be returning to the legislature next year, those who are termed out, running for higher office, or otherwise moving on. One of the more relevant speeches for charter school advocates was given by Senator Ben Allen (D – Santa Monica), about his colleague, Senator Steve Glazer (D–Orinda). Allen and Glazer served on the Senate Education Committee together and in his speech, Allen recognized Glazer as one of the few Senators who remain deeply committed to bipartisanship and policy making that first does-no-harm. We agree: His thoughtful and measured approach was appreciated and will be missed. (Glazer, who has reached the limit of terms in the legislature, has opened a committee to run for State Treasurer in 2026.)
