Last weekend, the Senate and Assembly wrapped up their work for the two-year legislative session. With 100 of the 120 state legislative seats on the ballot this November, incumbents are back in their districts, engaging with constituents and attending community events. This is an excellent time to invite your representatives to tour your campus or participate in fall events—and to have the opportunity to build relationships and showcase the positive impact of your charter school in the community.
In Sacramento, attention has shifted to Governor Gavin Newsom, who holds the fate of over 990 bills. The governor can either sign or veto legislation but cannot make any changes to the bills reaching his desk. According to the California Constitution, the governor may also passively allow bills to become law without a signature. He must act by September 30; otherwise, the bills will become law on October 2.
