California's 2025-26 legislative session ushers in a record number of new legislators, creating both challenges and opportunities for charter school advocates. These newly-elected officials will play a crucial role in shaping policies that directly impact charter school budgets, operations, and schools’ ability to serve students for the next 12 years.
Many of these legislators are passionate about supporting teachers, families, and students but may have limited understanding of charter schools. This presents an incredible opportunity for charter school leaders to proactively engage and build relationships, ensuring policymakers recognize the vital role charter schools play in their communities.
CSDC researched 23 new members in the Assembly and 12 in the Senate to see who might emerge as leaders in K-12 policy over the next few years, based on their campaign promises, endorsements, and profiles.
