Each year, CSDC produces a custom report, the CSDC Renewal Worksheet, to support school planning with an eye to the charter school renewal process. Among other features, the worksheet calculates how the school’s data from the most recent California School Dashboard and the previous year’s Dashboard each count in determining eligibility for streamlined renewal with a five- to seven-year renewal term (“High” category) or for presumptive denial with a maximum two-year renewal term (“Low” category), as well as the resulting eligibility based on the combined Dashboards. When schools do not meet the conditions for either status at the time of the renewal decision, the default renewal process applies (“Middle” category). Dashboard Alternative Status Schools (DASS) have a unique renewal process.
The CSDC Renewal Worksheet aims to help schools quickly identify student achievement patterns that may affect the school’s renewal process in future years. For a smoother renewal, CSDC encourages charter schools to use its custom Renewal Worksheets to analyze their data and make needed changes years ahead of renewal.
Charter schools can request a preliminary report now and/or when the report is updated with 2024 California Growth Model scores. The California Department of Education (CDE) anticipates posting Growth Model scores in January. CSDC will then update the CSDC Renewal Worksheet for schools with scores (schools that serve any of grades four through eight, typically). CSDC will also have additional custom analytics related to Growth Model trends available upon request.
CSDC encourages member schools facing potentially difficult renewals to reach out early for additional support from CSDC staff. CSDC has numerous resources to support charter renewal, including an in-depth guide to charter renewal data (draft available upon request), previously-offered webinar trainings (foundational- and intermediate-level), and upcoming webinars that will build on the existing webinars.
