Finally California has a metric to evaluate the academic growth of a school’s students and student groups—at least for Grades 4-8. On January 31, the California School Dashboard posted schools’ 2024 Growth Model scores, for informational purposes only, currently. The California Growth Model measures each student’s growth from the prior year on the California Assessment of Student Performance and Progress (CAASPP) and then compares that growth to the growth made by other students with the same baseline score. Comparing “actual” growth to typical growth provides an important view of the learning rate at the school. This webinar will explain the Growth Model’s strengths and limitations, discuss how it may be incorporated into charter school accountability, and provide data visualizations to support interpretation and understanding of the model.
