Charter school opponents are framing AB 84 as a fraud prevention and “parity” measure—but don’t be fooled. AB 84 is actually one of the most sweeping, expensive, and damaging anti-charter bills we’ve seen in years. It threatens the very foundation of California’s charter school movement: flexibility, autonomy, and innovation.
The time to act is now. Legislators need to hear directly from charter school leaders like you before this bill moves any further.
You don’t need to be an expert on every provision. What matters most is your voice and your story: How would AB 84, as currently written, impact your students, your staff, and your school community?
We are still early in the legislative process—and your engagement can shape the outcome. Meetings happening now will influence votes in the weeks ahead.
Don’t wait:
- Look up your Assemblymember and submit your meeting request today.
- If your school serves families in multiple districts, contact Laura Kerr for help coordinating outreach.
New tools available now in the AB 84 Toolkit:
- Sample legislative meeting request email and agenda
- In-depth policy analysis from Eric Premack
- Downloadable slide deck from CSDC’s April 10 statewide webinar
Visit the toolkit, take action, and help stop AB 84 before it harms the students and families we serve. Together, we can lead the conversation—and protect charter schools. ACCESS TOOLKIT
